Bucknell University's Department of Athletics and Recreation seeks to identify a pool of interested candidates to serve as a Lifeguard throughout the summer and possibly into the next academic year. This position will be filled on an as needed basis. It is an hourly, non-exempt position and is not eligible for University benefits.

Candidates must professionally and respectfully support a diverse and inclusive student body, faculty and workforce.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Current American Red Cross certification in Lifesaving, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED & First Aid. Training for certification is available for qualified applicants (ability to pass a swim test for certification and/or willing to complete the class).

2. Successful completion of skills test:
* Swim 300 yards continuously using breaststroke & front crawl.
* Tread water for 2 minutes, using only the legs
* Complete a timed event in 1 min 40 sec
* Retrieve diving brick from bottom of pool (14 ft)

3. Must be at least 16 years old.

It is the seat of Union County, which has about 44,000 residents.

The city of Williamsport is about a 30-minute drive from campus, and Penn State University’s main campus is about an hour away, as is Harrisburg, Pennsylvania’s state capital. Bucknell is within a three-hour drive of New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

The cost of living is low compared to that of major U.S. cities and suburbs. Bucknell’s surroundings yield fresh produce, cultural activities and events, and outstanding opportunities for outdoor activity on the Susquehanna River and in the nearby state parks and forests. The Lewisburg Area School District receives excellent reviews for its schools at all grade levels.
