Director, Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation
Bucknell University invites nominations and applications for the inaugural position of Director, Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (E&I). Reporting directly to the Associate Provost for Research and Creative Inquiry, the Director will work closely with the faculty and staff engaged in Bucknell’s ecosystem for entrepreneurship and innovation, the Deans and Associate Deans of the three Colleges, the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, and other relevant stakeholders within the campus and greater Lewisburg communities to oversee the establishment of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
At Bucknell, entrepreneurship is more than a concept taught in a course, or a set of practical skills that help students launch a business. It's the development and fostering of creativity, innovation, and exploration, and the process of taking purposeful, experiential action to bring new products, services, or organizations to life. This is the core of Bucknell's newest cross-college center of excellence: The Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation. Set to open in 2024, the Center is already poised to become a distinctive focal point for Bucknell as it will expand the entrepreneurial ecosystem of the University and advance social entrepreneurial mindsets. Students from all three of Bucknell's colleges will have the opportunity to harness the support and guidance that the Center will offer to transform their creative ideas into real-world products, services, and ventures that can make a large-scale impact on campus and throughout the region.
The Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation will work across the institution to lead this unique, interdisciplinary Center. This position will assist members of the faculty and staff to organize programming and identify and develop relevant experiential opportunities for students. The Director will work with relevant University stakeholders to grow the Center in line with the University strategic plan and needs of students, alumni, and the broader campus community.
Embodying the spirit of innovation and inclusive excellence, the Director will create value for the entire Bucknell University community by attracting resources, developing engagement opportunities, overseeing programming activities, enhancing the student experience, and developing the Ecosystem of Entrepreneurship and Innovation to benefit students, alumni, faculty, and staff, as well as the local community. The Director will be responsible for executing the mission and vision of the Center through the development of relationships, resources, opportunities, and programming.
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned higher education administrator with a master’s degree and at least seven-to-ten years of previous entrepreneurial experience (e.g. founder; owner/manager of a business; developed new business processes; patented an idea, product, or process; entrepreneurial performance/artist) or closely related significant professional experience (e.g. Business Development, Marketing & Sales, Product development, experience in organizational leadership). The Director will possess strong project management and/or productivity management experience and organizational skills. They will demonstrate the ability to think critically and be able to successfully work toward strategic goals. They will be able to work independently, manage multiple responsibilities, and adjust priorities in a busy environment. Additionally, the Director will possess a commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion at the University and contributing to programs and initiatives that convey Bucknell’s efforts to create an inclusive and equitable culture. Demonstrating a strong emotional intelligence, the Director will have excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to working courteously with internal and external constituencies. Excellent communication skills are a must with the ability to handle confidential information.
Bucknell is committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse community and promotes all its members’ full participation and inclusion. Grounded in the belief that diversity challenges assumptions, opens minds, and unlocks collective potential to solve any problem, the Director will share the University’s mission to create and sustain a campus community that welcomes, understands, supports, and celebrates diversity of all kinds.
This is a full-time position that will be performed on site in Pennsylvania. Salary commensurate with experience with a generous benefits package.
