The division of University Advancement (UA) includes four major areas: Development, Advancement Services, Alumni Relations, and the Career Development Center. As part of UA, the Office of Alumni Relations (OAR) seeks to create significant relationships between Bucknell and its alumni community to help secure resources necessary for the University to fulfill its educational mission.

The Assistant Director for Alumni Career Networking (AD) builds opportunities for alumni to advance their careers through events, digital resources and networking. The position develops connections and programming with companies that have a density of alumni employees.

This position reports to the Senior Associate Director, Alumni Relations.

All UA staff members are expected to contribute to Bucknell’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Essential Functions:
* Develop effective alumni career services programming and build relationships for alumni to improve their professional profile. (Career Counseling is not part of this position.)
* Create 10-12 annual alumni career events in key geographic regions that help alumni connect with each other, connect with valuable professional resources, and connect back to the University. Event formats can include expert panels, networking receptions, and faculty or alumni interviews. Programming should focus on effective and efficient outcomes with the biggest Return on Investment (ROI): better doesn’t necessarily mean more and bigger.
* Develop connections and programming with and for alumni in 5-10 companies/ employers annually that have a high density of alumni employees. Create a pipeline for employer relationships with the University. Coordinate with Career Development Center on leads gained for employer development efforts.
* Develop and market effective digital resources for alumni professional networking within and across industries and professions. Integrate alumni career resources into existing platforms such as Bucknell website, Bucknell and Alumni Relations social media.
* Work with the Senior Associate Director for Off-Campus Programs to integrate alumni career services into the overall regional program strategy.
* Frequent travel (car, air) to key geographic areas is required to successfully nurture relationships and execute events. Average travel is 4 days per month but may be more.
* Coordinate with support staff on event logistics such as selection of speakers, venue, menu, registration, marketing, etc.
* Collaborate with University Advancement staff to incorporate alumni career networking into appropriate programs and services, specifically through alumni career counseling, the Regional Club program and with fundraisers.
* Seek and manage interactions/ relationships with alumni to develop understanding of industry trends.
* Seek and manage interactions/ relationships with targeted faculty and staff, including the 3 academic colleges, to deliver effective programs that include a University update.
* Manage budget resources for programming and digital resources.
* Use Blackbaud CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system to view and record data and interactions with constituents.
* Communicate with University Advancement staff, informing them of relationships formed with alumni and parents.
* Respond promptly and effectively to all communications (phone, email, LinkedIn), both internal and external.
* Help develop effective marketing strategies and creative advertising to targeted alumni audiences.
* Measure ROI on all programming with budget and staff resources.
* Participate in additional events both on and off campus as needed, such as career events, employer/networking fairs, regional club events and alumni weekends.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree
* Two years of proven success in event management in a professional setting
* Two years of proven success in volunteer management
* Commitment to learn more about relevant business trends, particularly in the fields of finance, entrepreneurship and technology
* Excellent written communication skills and a clear, concise writing style; strong editing, spelling and grammar skills
* Ability and willingness to travel by car and plane including to major metropolitan areas
* Strong time management and organizational skills with ability to multitask
* Experience that shows advanced user skills in Microsoft Word and Excel and use of Google applications
* Commitment to higher education and philanthropy
* Valid Driver's License

The AD demonstrates organizational and interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, tact, discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality inside and outside of University Advancement. The AD demonstrates an ability to function independently and take ideas from theory to practice and also relates comfortably in a multifaceted environment, participating in and contributing to a total team effort. The AD excels in relationship building and connecting constituents with networks and resources.

Other Requirements:
In addition to the position-specific event requirements, this position requires evening and weekend work to support UA’s signature events including significant blocks of time during the weekend events. This also requires a commitment to attend/participate in on-campus and off-campus events/activities outside of normal business hours as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience with event registration systems and processes
* Experience with Blackbaud, preferably the advancement CRM module

Physical Requirements:

* Ability to lift 25 lbs.

The Community

Located in central Pennsylvania, Lewisburg features a variety of restaurants, beautiful Victorian homes, the restored art deco Campus Theatre (owned by the University), charming shops and boutiques, and the Barnes and Noble at Bucknell University Bookstore. About 33,000 residents live in the region.

The city of Williamsport is about a 30-minute drive from campus, and Penn State University’s main campus is about an hour away, as is Harrisburg, Pennsylvania’s state capital. Bucknell is about three hours from New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

The cost of living here is low compared to that of major U.S. cities and suburbs. Bucknell’s surroundings yield fresh produce, cultural activities and events, and many opportunities for outdoor activity on the Susquehanna River and in the nearby state parks and forests.
