The Career Development Center is a comprehensive career center offering services and programs that are relevant to undergraduates, graduate students and alumni. Assistance is available for issues such as self-assessment and career decision-making, creating job and internship search documents and utilizing job/internships search tools, preparing for interviews, conducting employment and graduate school research and pursuing internship and full-time employment leads. A wide variety of counseling and advising options are available each semester.

The successful candidate will provide individual and group career counseling/coaching for undergraduate students. They will also facilitate job search workshops and conduct resume reviews and mock (practice) interviews for approximately 25 hours/week from September 4 – December 7, 2018.

The University Advancement division of Bucknell includes four major areas: Development, Advancement Services, Alumni Relations, and the Career Development Center. As part of University Advancement, the mission of the Career Development Center is to educate Bucknellians in the art of integrating an individual's career goals with their varied academic and life experiences. We encourage students and alumni to learn the process of making informed and thoughtful career decisions by providing career expertise, diverse learning experiences and quality resources, and by creating opportunities for meaningful connections with an engaged university and global community.

Job Duties: 
• Counsel/coach students individually on various career issues, such as career decision making, choice of major, summer job/internship/full time job search strategies, resume development, cover letter writing, networking and interview preparation.
• Develop and teach educational workshops on career topics including career planning, internship and job search strategies, networking, graduate school applications, and employment-related concerns.
• Conduct employment and graduate school mock (practice) interviews.
• Staff walk-in counseling hours as needed.
• Complete data entry in a timely fashion regarding counseling conversations and career documents.
• Maintain confidential student records, utilizing the Career Development Center’s database system and the university’s CRM system.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: 
• Bachelor’s degree
• Two years of experience advising college students or adults on career issues or related experience with corporate recruitment or Human Resources background
• Demonstrated ability to be creative, take initiative, and problem solve
• Demonstrated ability to develop relationships and communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team setting

Preferred Qualifications: 
• Master’s degree in counseling or related field
• Experience engaging with college students for the purpose of hiring full time or internship talent
• Experience working in a college setting
• Demonstrated knowledge of career assessment tools, including ability to review and interpret results
• Strong knowledge of and skills in current social media platforms
• Demonstrated understanding of and appreciation for the relationship between the liberal arts and employability
• Demonstrated proficiency with technology such as database functions/reports, Microsoft Word and Excel, social media tools, internet/email usage, etc.
• Knowledge of recruiting software
• Experience with a contact relationship management system

The Community

Located in central Pennsylvania, Lewisburg features a variety of restaurants, beautiful Victorian homes, the restored art deco Campus Theatre (owned by the University), charming shops and boutiques, and the Barnes and Noble at Bucknell University Bookstore. About 33,000 residents live in the region.

The city of Williamsport is about a 30-minute drive from campus, and Penn State University’s main campus is about an hour away, as is Harrisburg, Pennsylvania’s state capital. Bucknell is about three hours from New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

The cost of living here is low compared to that of major U.S. cities and suburbs. Bucknell’s surroundings yield fresh produce, cultural activities and events, and many opportunities for outdoor activity on the Susquehanna River and in the nearby state parks and forests. Lewisburg Area High School is consistently ranked among the top 50 high schools in Pennsylvania for SAT scores and statewide exams.
