The Event Manager provides as-needed front-of-house/event/facility management for events at The Weis Center for the Performing Arts or other locations for events sponsored by the WCFTPA, such as The Campus Theatre. This is a casual position that is anticipated to work 150-180 hours to support up to 60 events throughout the year.
• Act as the main point of contact/facility manager/Weis Center liaison to the client and inter-university departments. • Assist the Director of Operations in scheduling support-staff (student ushers and student house managers) for events. • Supervise and coordinate the work of student usher and student house managers for assigned events. • Ensure the building is ready for guests (clean, safe, etc), arriving with ample time prior to the event start time. As required take measures to correct any issues, using the help of appropriate and available university departments. Unlock the building and turns lights on to welcome guests at the appropriate time. Responsible for staying after the close of events until all guests and collaborating departments have exited the building. Secure the building prior to departure, sometimes working with the custodian-on-duty for building lock-up duties. • When necessary, organize and assist in set up and break down of guest artist and patron accommodations, including but not limited to chairs, tables, merchandise sales, hospitality meet & greet stations and book sales/signings, stanchions and signs for crowd control. • Manage guest needs in the atrium lobby for receptions and events such as dining set ups, minor sound and light needs. • Ensure the safety of patrons, artists, and staff through the proper implementation and enforcement of safety procedures. Make on-the-spot decisions regarding the best possible outcome for guests and the event while remaining within the University’s and Weis Center’s missions, including but not limited to handling emergency situations such as injured guests or managing building evacuations. • Perform other duties during events and address issues including, but are not limited to, crowd control, scanning tickets, program distribution, seating attendant, merchandise sales, clean-up of spills and/or assigning custodian-on-duty to appropriate tasks. • Provide excellent customer service to guests and clients and adhere to the Weis Center mission at all times and actively contribute to Bucknell’s commitment or diversity and inclusiveness. Minimum Qualifications: • Experience in successful event management, preferably in a university setting or comparable experience in the live event industry. • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service in a fast paced environment. • Effective and organized leadership skills with excellent communication skills. • Willingness and ability to work with a flexible schedule, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays and long hours. • Knowledge and understanding of basic office and computer skills Preferred Qualifications: • Experience in house management of a performing arts venue. • CPR and First Aid certifications
